Co-ordinate Measuring Machines ( C M M ) / Retrofitting Measuring Machines
? Prime technologies is the company retrofitting hundreds of
measuring machines. Wenzel cmm machines are of 3 types namely,
bridge type cmm - lh range, traveling bridge type cmm - lhf range,
horizontal arm cmm. Bridge type co-ordinate measuring machine and
traveling bridge type machines are equipped with air bearing guide
ways on all axes, providing frictionless and wear-free operation.
X, y and z axes of both the measuring machines are made of granite
in order to achieve the same thermal characteristics in all axes.
The z axis incorporates a pneumatic cylinder capable of holding the
axes in any position. The third measuring machines referred as
horizontal arm cmm features machine tool grade, high accuracy
linear guide ways in the x axis. The y and z axes features finely
tuned preloaded roller bearings providing minimum friction and
operational wear. This particular machine is equipped with a
mechanical counterbalance for the y and z axes thus enabling it to
rest in any desired position. The x axis guide system is protected
by bellows or can be supplied with walkable covers for floor level
installations. All the above-mentioned models are available in
manual, motorized or full cnc configuration. This retrofit
technique is very much popular in recent years as it offers more
technical and financial benefits like it restores full performances
back to any measuring machines with the guarantee of more cost
effective operation and greater measuring capabilities. This in
turn contributes in enhancing the working life of these machines.
Apart from these advantages, cmm machine improves the productivity
and reduces the downtime thus increasing its reliability. Scanning
capabilities obtained with renishaw, sp25, sp80 analogue scanning
probes, cad integration, dmis, more disk / data storage capacities
are the other number of new facilities that are obtained by
applying cmm retrofit. Co-ordinate measuring machine accuracy is
increased because of error mapping software offered by these cmm
